Threatened Species Prioritisation Framework
The Queensland Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI), in collaboration with CSIRO, have developed a new Threatened Species Prioritisation Framework.
The purpose of the Framework is to guide actions and investment to support the recovery of Queensland’s threatened plants and animals. This is a key action in the Department’s Threatened Species Program 1.4 MB) .
The Framework consist of a decision-making support tool, which is underpinned by a comprehensive database that includes an assessment of all threatened species.
More than 100 experts from across Queensland are contributing their expertise and knowledge to the development of this framework.
The Threatened Species Decision Tool
The Threatened Species Decision Tool allows users to access comprehensive threatened species information and create a shortlist of threatened species relevant to your decision-making context. The tool is flexible and iterative, designed to enable users to run different scenarios, visualise the results and compare the outputs.

Access the tool
Registered Users have access to more functionality in the Threatened Species Decision Tool, such as exporting tables. You will need to register with your email address and set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) upon access. You will receive an email inviting you to access the tool as a registered user shortly after registration.

Hello and welcome to this video where we'll be going through a quick overview of the Threatened Species Decision Tool.
There are other videos available that you can use to learn about performing specific tasks within the tool.
But in this video we'll be doing a quick tour of the tool so that you can see what data is available in the tool and how you can find it.
When you first open the tool you will land on the homepage and this gives you some options to go directly to the tool or to learn more about it straight away.
There are also some instructional videos to help you learn how to perform some specific tasks within the tool.
And finally there's an opportunity for you to provide feedback about the tool and the data in it.
To get started we can go to the tool by clicking the green button.
When you first open the tool it will show you all of the species that are available in the Threatened Species data.
If you choose some criteria for instance, and let's do that by clicking the 'Set My Criteria' button and selecting Amphibians.
You can see that the number of shortlisted species has been updated to 34.
Which means that we have selected 34 species for our shortlist out of the 1166 total species that are available in the Threatened Species data.
There's a separate video you can use to learn more about all the different ways you can filter your shortlist.
The tool includes a number of reports which you can find on the left hand side of the page here.
And you can use these reports to see different kinds of information about your species.
The location and tenure page includes a series of maps, graphs and tenure information about species in your shortlist.
And it also shows the spatial distribution of your species across different region types.
The Threats and Actions report shows the threats, management actions and enabling actions for species in your shortlist.
Both as a series of charts and in the format of tables as well.
The Conservation Status page shows information about your shortlist species and where they appear in different conservation listings.
The Co-benefits page shows the list of species that are co-benefited by the species that are in your shortlist.
And finally we have the Data Limited species page which shows all of the species that may match your criteria but because they lack some kinds of data they might not appear in our original species shortlist.
Across the top of the screen we can return to the home page if we want.
We can always go to this tool by clicking go to tool.
There is also an about page which describes the threatened species prioritisation framework, the data, the tool and who has been involved in developing it.
There is also a help page which will help you learn about how to perform some specific tasks within the tool.
Additionally there is an FAQ page which features frequently asked questions about first of all the tool and second of all the threatened species data.
Finally there is a feedback page where once again you can find links and an email address that you can use for providing feedback.
