Registering a home birth

Part of the Births and registration topic

Understand how to register the birth of a baby not born in a hospital.

In short

Register your baby before they’re 8 weeks old (that’s within 60 days) if they were born in Queensland.

It’s free to do.

This includes stillborn children carried in the womb for 20 weeks or weighing 400g or more.

You need to register the birth of your child.

To finalise the registration, a notice of birth form must also be completed.

Who completes and submits the notice of birth form will depend on who was present at the birth. It will also depend if the baby was taken to a hospital.
