Apply for a bodyguard licence

A bodyguard’s job is to protect someone's personal safety.

You need to hold a current class 1 security licence to do this job.

To get a bodyguard licence you need to:

  • be 18 or older and have proof of your identity
  • have your fingerprints taken
  • pass a criminal history check
  • complete the required training course.

This licence doesn’t authorise you to carry firearms, handcuffs or batons.

You can work as a bodyguard while training by applying for a restricted licence, as long as a fully licensed provider supervises you. To apply, select the restricted licence checkbox on the form.
