Security industry forms
On this page you'll find forms for the security industry.
Note: We can't accept fee payments over the phone or by email as debit and credit card payments aren't secure using these methods. If we get an email containing these details, we'll have to immediately delete it and your application and payment won't be processed.
Fill out the Application for a security licence (Class 1) (Form 1-1) to add any of the following functions to a class 1 security licence:
- unarmed security officer
- monitoring security officer
- dog patrol security officer
- cash transit security officer
- bodyguard
- crowd controller
- private investigator.
Tick the upgrade box and indicate in Part 1 the functions you want to add. Attach evidence of any relevant training modules you've completed for that licence function.

Apply online (individuals only)—select Fair Trading Individual New Application.
You can apply online for any of these class 1 security licences:
- bodyguard
- private investigator
- crowd controller
- cash transit security officer
- unarmed security officer
- monitoring security officer
- dog patrol security officer.
The online application also covers these class 2 security licences:
Note: you can't apply online for a security firm licence. You can only apply in person or by post.
Note: security officer is one class of licence, so if you hold an unarmed security officer licence and monitoring security officer licence, this is only one class of licence.
This is a requirement of the Security Providers Act 1993.

- Application for a security provider licence: Individual—Class 1 (Form 1-1) (individuals)
- Application for a security provider licence: Individual—Class 2 (Form 1-2) (individuals)
- Application for a security firm licence (Form 2) (companies and individuals).

There is no form to fill out.
Write to us at an OFT contact centre or by email to ilu@justice.qld.gov.au to request we change or remove your licence conditions.
Include as much detail as possible, including your licence number.
Some individuals or firms can apply for a temporary permit to work in Queensland. For more information, contact us by phone on 07 3738 8705 or email ilu@justice.qld.gov.au.
Apply online (individuals only) to renew your licence.
Note: You can't apply online to renew a security firm licence. You can only apply in person or by post.
Other ways to apply
We'll post you or your firm a form 4 to 6 weeks before your licence expires—contact us if you need a new copy.

Apply online to replace a licence or request an extract (copy).
An extract will show:
- the name of the person who holds the licence
- the status of the licence—current, expired, refused, cancelled or suspended
- their licence number and class.

You can also contact us by post or email ilu@justice.qld.gov.au as soon as you notice your licence is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed.

Current interstate or New Zealand licence holders can fill out 1 of these forms:
- Application for mutual recognition: Individual—Class 1 (Form 3-1) to apply for these licence types:
- Application for mutual recognition—Class 2 (Form 3-2) to apply for these licences:
This is a requirement of the Mutual Recognition (Queensland) Act 1992 and the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition (Queensland) Act 2003.

Processing times
Applications usually take 4 to 6 weeks to process. It can take longer if you haven't supplied all the information we need or paid the correct fees.
